The Allison Clan

The surname Allison is a "Sept" of Clan MacAlister.   MacAlister is an early offshoot of Clan Donald tracing its history back to the 13th century and its origin to Allister (or Alexander) son of Donald of Isla and great-grandson of the famous Somerled.   The principal family was the MacAlisters of Loup whose chieftain in 1493 was Iain Dubh.
